Organised Chaos Gamay Noir 2020 - 6 pack

Tasting Note: Bright red fruits, raspberry and plum, with a hint of sap and spice. The palate is soft and textural with the red fruits again dominating. Super fine tannins and a fresh acid. Our Gamay Noir is grown by Ian and Linda Quinn at Two Terraces Vineyard, on the Mangatahi Terraces, 15km further inland from the Gimblett Gravels. The Managatahi Terraces are ancient river terraces formed over thousands of years by the Ngaruroro River, which now flows more than 30m below the vineyard. These terraces are made up of greywacke and gravel under volcanic, stony, silt based, topsoil.

Winemaking Notes: 100% carbonic maceration for 7-9 days (clone dependant) before being whole bunch pressed to stainless steel tanks. 5 months of batanoge before being blended and bottled in August 2020, unfined. Clones: 66% 509 & 34% RIPPON Hand-picked with the clones picked 3 days apart (3rd-6th March).

Alcohol: 12.0%

Variety: Gamay

Region: Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand

“The pale, barely red-coloured Gamay Noir is all about fresh, lively fun. Made with carbonic maceration for 7 to 9 days in a sealed tank with intact berries under a protective blanket of CO2, it captures a very vibrant, crunchy, crisp and bright cherry fruitiness. However, in a stroke of winemaking genius, this manages to avoid the cloying hard candy character which often plagues Beaujolais Nouveau (and other carbonic maceration Gamay). Here, the Two Terraces terroir brings a layer of earthy mushroom, dusty blackcurrant leaf and blood orange to the wine. The lighter alcohol (12.5%) completely works with this lighter, fresh and ultra-drinkable Gamay. Where the Chenin finishes serious like a martini, this finishes like good bitters; lip-smacking, tart, bittersweet and it will have you reaching for another glass. My recommendation is to buy this by the dozen and keep a bottle chilled at all times in preparation for sunny day picnics or the beach!” – Stephen Wong MW

“Pale ruby colour – could masquerade as a deep-tinted rosé. Fragrant, fruity aroma with violet, red cherry and raspberry flavours. A charming wine for summer drinking. Could be served slightly chilled. Drink 2020 to 2023” – Bob Campbell MW
